Majoring in the Minors (#320 of 365+)

“Well done, my good servant! Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities” (Luke 19:17)

Joni compared living the Christian life to being a rookie in the minor leagues.
She said we’re only warming up for “a chance to pitch in the majors.” The work we do as believers in the time we have left in this world will be rewarded—if it’s from a pure motive and in full dependence on Holy Spirit.

“If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames” (1 Corinthians 3:12-15)

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10)

The apostle Paul was comforted in knowing the Lord noticed everything and would reward him for being faithful. This knowledge kept him from quitting over the course of many years in the ministry. It also gave him the grace to accept his destiny—to be martyred for his faith in Christ.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Jesus said, “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done” (Revelation 22:12)

Lord, you are the only reward I want but help me in this life—purify my heart and equip me in your Spirit—so I may be faithful enough to receive a crown. All the glory, honor, and praise will belong to you forever. Amen.
