Putting Pleasure on Hold (#218 of 365+)

“I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God” (Psalm 38:15)

In today’s devotional Joni compared not waiting on the Lord to
drinking hotel lobby coffee when there’s a “gourmet coffee kiosk” at the airport. Don’t be fooled by that tempting aroma. You’ll eventually regret your decision to settle for a second-rate quick-fix when you could have waited a little longer and had first-class quality.

She insisted that waiting on the Lord involves more than passively twiddling one’s thumbs and watching the grass grow. Quite the opposite! Waiting on the Lord requires decisive action. You’ll clear your calendar and make reservations for God’s best. You won’t even want to consider those invitations to be “impulsive” and “spur-of-the-moment” because they’ll cause you to lose out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

“He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises” (2 Peter 1:4 NASB)

Even though we might have to wait a long time, God never fails to come through with something bigger and better than our sacrifice. We won’t know what God has in store for us until the great reveal but we can be sure the payoff—the satisfaction in the end—will be worth the wait. It always is...

Joni urged, “Take time to be still before [the Lord], seeking his mind and his desire for your today… and all your tomorrows.”

Lord, I trust you. Help my husband and I not to rush ahead but to wait patiently for you to clear the path. Thank you for caring about our every need. Amen.
