The Beauty of Holiness (#217 of 365+)

“Your eyes will see the king in his beauty” (Isaiah 33:17)

Try describing beauty to someone who is blind. It would be very difficult. One has to see and experience it first-hand to fully
understand.

Dictionary.com defines “beauty” as “the quality… that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind.” Isaiah used the word to describe the King of Kings. But he wasn’t talking about physical characteristics. He was referring to the Lord’s intrinsic qualities.

“Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness” (Psalm 29:2)

“We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9)

We can “see” the Lord’s beauty when we meditate on his holiness. Joni said the best way to do this is to remember how “he died for sin, and we die to sin.” Jesus Christ died on the cross for us so we could be scrubbed clean of sin’s filth. He rose from the grave so we could have eternal life. When we believe it’s like being given a bath and fresh new clothes… and a new identity and life. Have you ever felt that way? It feels beautiful! Salvation only happens once but you’ll continue to know the Lord’s grace for the rest of your life. His splendor will never depart. Think on that and embrace your relationship with God.

“You’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse” (Philippians 4:8 MSG)

Lord, you’re beautiful. Thank you for everything you've done for me. May I remember how abundant I am in your grace and life. Amen.
