Crowds of people swarmed around Jesus because he had the reputation of being Mr. Fix-it. He could heal diseases the best doctors couldn’t cure. He cast out demons that powerful religious leaders didn’t have authority over. He
made the lame walk, made the deaf hear, made the mute talk, made the blind see, and made souls come back to their cold, dead bodies. Even though his disciples saw him do these sorts of things and more, they were still dumbstruck when he could calm the wind and the waves. They were surprised when he miraculously provided for a last-minute meal to feed thousands, unexpected income to pay taxes that were due, and humble transportation into the city of Jerusalem that also happened to fulfill prophecy.
“When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’
‘Yes, Lord,’ they replied” (Matthew 9:28)
Jesus had the ability to do anything! Yet some people still doubted him. He was and still is very interested in what people believe about him. Not only because our belief or lack of belief means the difference between life and death, but it also affects the quality of life we’ll experience on earth. For example, there are so many things I have absolutely zero control over but if I truly believe my Lord is sovereign over everything then I will feel at peace in the midst of any circumstances.
A good way to increase peace and have a stronger faith in the Lord is to fill my mind with truth reminders from scripture like these:
“He is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:25)
“He is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day” (2 Timothy 1:12)
“[He] will also subdue all your enemies” (1 Chronicles 17:10)
“[He], by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:21)
“[He] is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)
“For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37)
Lord, I believe that you are able to do infinitely more than I could ever dream. I want my actions to start following in the footsteps of my faith. May I learn to ask for your help even when my request seems too big or too small. Display your power in my life so others will also see and believe. You deserve all the glory and honor. Amen.
