Eternal Life (#272 of 365+)

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:55-57)

For believers, death is no longer something to fear. It’s only a passageway, a crossing, to eternal life with a God of love and forgiveness.

Jesus said, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him” (John 3:36). Sin caused a break in the relationship between God and mankind which is visible in the way everything physical deteriorates, decays, and eventually dies. So any soul who doesn’t know our Redeemer, the Lord of Life, is already dead. Spiritually dead. But Joni made it clear the physical death of a nonbeliever doesn’t mean they’ll cease to exist. Quite the contrary. The soul is eternal. So the physical death of any person who has disregarded or rejected God’s free gift of eternal life is a gateway to horror. There is only one opportunity, this life on earth, to respond to God’s grace. If we don’t allow Jesus to be the propitiation for our sins—which means he took our full punishment to satisfy the Father’s sense of justice—then the alternative is judgment.

A person’s soul can’t come alive without the Spirit of God, yet a relationship with a holy God is impossible unless sin has been eradicated from the soul. Jesus Christ is the only answer for mankind’s predicament! Eternal life begins immediately, in the present body, for any soul who is ready to believe in Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit.

“If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15)

Lord of my life, thank you for every day and every breath. May something I do or say today make an eternal difference in someone else’s life. Amen.
