Speak Up (#351 of 365+)

“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none” (Ezekiel 22:30)

The following is the plot summary for Hotel Rwanda at IMDb.com:
Ten years ago some of the worst atrocities in the history of mankind took place in the country of Rwanda--and in an era of high-speed communication and round the clock news, the events went almost unnoticed by the rest of the world. In only three months, one million people were brutally murdered. In the face of these unspeakable actions, inspired by his love for his family, an ordinary man summons extraordinary courage to save the lives of over a thousand helpless refugees, by granting them shelter in the hotel he manages.
The further emphasize the amount of evil that happened in Rwanda in 1994, Joni said the genocide of Tutsis happened at “three times the speed of Hitler’s extermination of the Jews and Gypsies.” To make her point hit home with those of us who live fairly comfortable lives in the U.S., she said “it was the equivalent of more than two World Trade Center slaughters every single day for a hundred straight days.”

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” ~Edmund Burke

Lord, no one has paid more costly a price to fight evil than you did. Help me to be more like you and stand in the gap for someone else who doesn’t have the voice to speak up for themselves. May I never remain silent or stand by and do nothing. Amen.
