Two Lenses (#283 of 365+)

“Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men” (Lamentations 3:32-33)

Joni said this verse basically shows how God sees everything through two lenses: a narrow lens and a wide-angle lens. It says, “Though he brings grief… He does not willingly bring… grief…” He is never pleased to watch us grieve. He hurts when we’re hurt. But he can see all the eternal beauty and worth that a painful situation will produce. We know this because the Father allowed the Son to suffer—for our good.

“For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD” (Ezekiel 18:32)

Lord, thank you for your unfailing love and compassion. Help me to see things from your perspective. May I put more faith in your sovereign plan every day. Amen.
