What’s Up Ahead (#98 of 365+)

A couple months ago God spoke to me through the apostle Paul’s clear instructions to young Timothy: “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for
everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-4). My heart became burdened for the salvation and sanctification of our leaders and their staff in all three branches of government—executive, legislative, and judicial. Almost every day I’ve been praying for them and I wear a wristband to remind me of my commitment.

Slowly but surely my usual passion for politics has been replaced with a concern for souls. I feel it is necessary to share this burden with other Christians over the next several months. I don’t know why God planted this seed in me; it is his desire for all to be saved and he knows in advance who will and won’t accept his free gift of salvation. My prayers can’t possibly change the outcome of anything but I must obey what he has strongly impressed upon me to do. It’s almost like I’m walking completely blind to what’s up ahead. The Lord can clearly see and he is leading me through this unknown territory. I simply have to trust him—which is sometimes much easier said than done!

Today’s verses help strengthen my resolve: “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun” (Psalm 37:5-6). Joni said, “We say to God, ‘If you don’t mind, please show me where I am going’… [We want] something to give us a clue as to what God is doing… [but] faith that must be supported by the five senses is not genuine”.

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29)

“Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God” (Isaiah 50:10)

Lord, as the father of the young boy with the evil spirit said, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief”. Help me to have the kind of faith that trusts you completely and expects miracles no matter how impossible the odds may seem. You are awesome, mighty, powerful, and sovereign. Thank you for giving my little existence such significance. May my life bring honor to your name. Amen.
