The Littlest Things (#115 of 365+)

“That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him” (Esther 6:1)

With God, there are no coincidences...

Because King Xerxes couldn’t get to sleep, he ordered someone to read him the chronicles about his reign (a surefire way to induce sleep). Because the chronicles were read, he learned an obscure piece of information that planted a seed in his mind. Because the seed was planted, the next day King Xerxes granted Queen Esther’s request to spare the lives of the Jewish people. If we take this series of events even further, the future birth of a Jewish boy who would grow up and die for the world’s sins was possible because one night a king had insomnia.

As Joni remarked, “God uses the most innocuous, everyday, bland circumstances to engineer the most earth-shattering and significant moments in your life. How he does it is one of the great mysteries. But he does it. Totally natural. But mind-boggling complicated”.

Dear Father, Esther’s story reminded me how you orchestrate even the smallest events in my life for a grand purpose. Praise you for what you have done, are doing, and will do for me! Thank you for people you sent into my life who unwittingly made an impact on my salvation and sanctification. Please allow me an opportunity to bless many, many others in a similar fashion this year. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
