“I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a
new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD” (Psalm 40:1-3)
Listen to the song “Psalm 40” by NewSong
I learned from today’s devotional that those verses aren’t actually referring to a “new” praise song. The part that is “new” is when the praise comes from a different person! Each one of us has a personal story about God’s goodness—if we were made alive in Christ—and we can share the ancient story of God’s grace in a way that is fresh, new, and applicable.
Individual testimony and visible evidence of the Holy Spirit’s power speak louder and clearer than any broadcast sermon could. Authentic Christianity—genuine faith accompanied by a changed life—will result in others also responding to God’s love. It simply requires a little courage, and a lot of obedience, on the part of believers to share the Truth with others.
Father, thank you taking notice of my hopeless condition, lifting me out of it, and setting my feet upon the Solid Rock. May my new song reach the ears of someone who desperately needs to hear about your love. Amen.
