My Own Baggage (#345 of 365+)

“When they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding” (2 Corinthians 10:12 ESV)

Joni talked about how silly it is to envy someone else’s life only because it
looks better. She said it’s like waiting at the airport luggage carousel and being tempted to take someone else’s fancy new designer luggage instead of my own beat-up suitcase.

I don’t know what challenges lay beneath the exterior of another person’s perfect-looking life. And, even if I don’t always recognize this fact, the “baggage” I have is perfect for me. The Lord has carefully packed my journey with everything it needs to fulfill a unique purpose. He has placed every ability, weakness, accomplishment, disappointment, and person in it for a good reason. My baggage—my life summed up in one little word—is of exceedingly great worth to God. I should own it and treat it as though I believe that with all my heart.

“I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4:1)

Lord, help me to keep my eyes on you and not compare myself to others. Thank you for graciously providing for my family’s needs. You’ve given us blessings and resources that we tend to overlook. May I be aware of every opportunity you put in front of me this week. Help me by your Spirit to be faithful to you and respond in a manner “worthy” of your great love. Amen.
