Future Memories (#26 of 365+)

Things didn’t go so well yesterday. We didn’t get reimbursed for the plumber and the water extraction company. The property manager never apologized and never took responsibility for her
poorly trained emergency maintenance team. Instead she shifted the blame to us, the tenants, for taking reasonable action to protect the townhouse and our belongings from water damage. She made us feel like fools for calling the wrong vendors to take care of the problem and criticized the quality of their work. She said it was against their policy to use anyone other than their select vendors. The manager did however replace the water heater, turned the water back on, and put some professional-grade blowers on our carpets. Our furniture and belongings are still shoved to the side and stacked high and I won’t be able to clean properly until everything is put back.

My husband and I are looking forward to the end of our lease contract so we can move out. We’ve always known this was just a temporary dwelling but our emotions were attached to it since this was the first place we've ever lived in together. Now we see it as just a shelter and we can’t wait to move into another place that we can call home.

I still remember what home was like as a little child. No cares in the world. Every day was about playing and experiencing new things. Most of my best memories were during Christmas. The glowing lights, the warmth and smells coming from the kitchen, the laughter, the anticipation, and the innocence... In today’s devotional, Joni takes the best memories from her past and shows that they are only a foreshadowing of what is to come. Our best memories, the best time we’re ever going to have, will be in our future heavenly home.

“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Lord, as I remember the past with bittersweet fondness help me to enjoy today and look forward to a glorious future. Amen.
